Ten‑year‑old Austin Byres survived a 2021 lawn‑mower accident that nearly cost him both legs and feet. He was air‑lifted to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), where surgeons re‑attached his foot and saved both feet, averting amputation.

Four years later, on 26 July 2026, Byres completed the Supertri Toronto triathlon, running the final stretch alongside Canadian Olympic triathlete Tyler Mislawchuk and a team of SickKids staff. Byres said the experience felt amazing and thanked the hospital for saving his feet. Mislawchuk won the men’s professional race, while Slovakia’s Zuzana Michaličková claimed the women’s title in 59:34 and Canada’s Kira Gupta‑Baltazar placed third.
