Austin Museum Day offers free admission to over 30 institutions

The 29th annual Austin Museum Day will take place on Sunday, September 20, offering free admission to more than 30 participating institutions across Central Texas. The event features a variety of programming, including sculpture workshops, historic-house tours, and hands-on science exhibits.

Key highlights include a centennial exhibition at the Austin History Center celebrating the Austin Public Library, and access to the recently opened Houdini’s Library at the Harry Ransom Center. Visitors can also view a major exhibition of Swedish artist Moki Cherry and the final showing of Sarah Bird’s photographs of Texas’ Black rodeo traditions at the Bastrop County Museum.

Thinkery, a participating venue, will offer free admission from 10 AM to 5 PM. Due to high expected demand, the museum will operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no pre-purchased or reserved tickets available. Visitors are encouraged to create online accounts in advance to expedite check-in and should expect potential wait times as the museum monitors capacity.
