Austin Peay football wins season opener 35-17 over Gardner-Webb

Austin Peay State University football opened its 2026 season with a 35-17 victory over Gardner-Webb at Fortera Stadium. Preseason United Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year Chris Parson led the offense with 308 passing yards and one touchdown, while also contributing a rushing touchdown. Courtland Simmons added two rushing scores to secure the win for the No. 17 ranked Governors.

In collegiate volleyball, the Austin Peay women's team is beginning its 50th season with the Stacheville Challenge, featuring matches against UT Martin, Jackson State, and Kansas City. Meanwhile, the No. 22 Tennessee Lady Vols are set to host the Tennessee Tournament, facing Colgate, Fairfield, and Morehead State.

In basketball, Tennessee assistant coach Amorrow Morgan reported that sophomore guard Troy Henderson is progressing well in his recovery from left shoulder surgery and is expected to return to the court soon.
