Austin police fatally shoot 17‑year‑old Anthoneil Williams II after 911 call

A 911 call placed from the phone of 17‑year‑old Anthoneil Williams II reported a possible weapon in a parking lot in Austin, Texas. Police arrived at a community park early Friday morning and found Williams, who appeared to lift his shirt and move his hand toward his waist while officers ordered him to keep his hands up. Three Austin police officers fired multiple rounds; Williams, who was unarmed and carrying only a water bottle, fell in a playground area and died at the scene despite paramedic attempts to revive him.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the investigation is ongoing and suggested the incident "appears to be a suicide by police intervention." The three officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. The case has sparked community outrage and calls for greater police accountability and mental‑health support.
