Austin, TX and Robbinsdale, MN school districts propose bond referendums for upgrades

Austin Public Schools placed a $24.9 million bond referendum on the November 3 ballot to fund upgrades at seven schools, including secure entrances, accessibility improvements, system replacements and a pool renovation at Ellis Middle School. Superintendent Dr. Joey Page said the plan reflects community feedback after a prior $67 million proposal was rejected. The district estimates a homeowner with a $200,000 property would pay about $75 more per year in taxes if the measure passes.

Robbinsdale Area Schools approved three ballot questions that could raise up to $413 million for school renovation and construction. The “Building Better Together” plan would increase property taxes by roughly $25 per month for residents if all measures pass. Superintendent Dr. Teri Staloch called the referendum “our opportunity to build a predictable, intentional path forward.” Community opposition has grown, with groups such as Neighbors for Sustainable 281 urging voters to reject the proposal over concerns about higher taxes.
