Auston Matthews named NHL Star of the Week

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been named the NHL’s first star of the week. Matthews recorded nine points, consisting of three goals and six assists, across three games. His performance included two four-point outings, notably an overtime winning goal in a 5-4 victory against Nashville.

Matthews is demonstrating an enhanced playmaking ability alongside his scoring, currently tied for fifth in NHL scoring with 10 points in six games. He is also tied for second in the league in primary assists, trailing only Connor McDavid. This development follows recent skepticism regarding his form after previous injury-plagued seasons.

Other notable performers this week included Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger, who posted a 2-0-1 record with one goal allowed on 60 shots, and New York Rangers left-winger Alexis Lafreniere, who led the league with five goals and two assists.
