Australia advances electricity infrastructure projects

Infrastructure projects are advancing across Australia to bolster electricity network capacity and support renewable energy integration.

In the Northern Territory, construction has commenced on a $2.7 million zone substation at Humpty Doo. The project aims to replace aging infrastructure and increase network reliability and capacity for local residents and businesses. To minimize service disruptions during the upgrade, the Power and Water Corporation is utilizing a mobile substation.

In Queensland, earthworks have begun at the Flinders Substation south of Hughenden. This site is a critical component of the CopperString transmission link, which is designed to connect the mineral and renewable-rich northern and northwestern regions to the National Electricity Market. The project includes a 350-kilometer transmission line expected to be completed by 2032, intended to unlock significant wind and solar projects, such as Windlab’s Wongalee and Prairie projects, as well as mining developments in the North West Minerals Province.
