Australia advances freight infrastructure through bridge and rail upgrades

Infrastructure upgrades are underway across Australia to bolster freight networks. In Victoria, the Dennington, Allansford, and Weerite bridges along the Princes Highway West have been strengthened. The $15.14 million project, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments, aims to support higher freight volumes for the region’s forestry, timber, and dairy industries.

In Western Australia, planning has commenced for major freight rail upgrades to connect the future Westport container terminal with Perth’s existing network. The project involves an integrated team from Arup Australia Projects and WSP Australia working with Main Roads WA and the Public Transport Authority. Proposed works include a new rail connection from the Kwinana terminal, track duplication, level crossing removals, and a new grade separation at North Lake Road to prepare for the transition of container operations from Fremantle to Westport.
