Australia and Indonesia renew youth exchange program

Australia and Indonesia have renewed the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) for a three-year term. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Rod Brazier and the Secretary of the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Suyadi Pawiro, during the Indonesia Youth Summit 2026.

Established in 1982, AIYEP is the longest-running bilateral youth exchange program between the two nations. The initiative aims to foster leadership skills, cross-cultural understanding, and long-term friendships among the youth of both countries.

In a separate educational initiative, the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra and the North Maluku Family Association (HIKMU) held a national webinar to encourage Indonesian students to pursue higher education in Australia. The session provided guidance on the Australian higher education system, academic culture, and student adaptation to help improve human resource competitiveness globally.
