Australia and UK sign agreement for potential radar acquisition

Australia and the United Kingdom have signed an agreement to progress the potential acquisition of Australian-designed radar systems by the UK Ministry of Defence. The deal involves advanced electronically scanned array (AESA) radar technology developed by Canberra-based CEA Technologies.

Under the agreement, British company QinetiQ will be responsible for the integration, testing, and assurance of the radar arrays into the UK defence system. This process ensures the technology is compatible with British command and control systems and meets necessary electromagnetic standards.

The collaboration aligns with the AUKUS Pillar 2 framework, which aims to deepen technological cooperation between Australia, the UK, and the US in areas such as electronic warfare, undersea technologies, and quantum computing. Reports suggest a potential future contract could reach $10 billion, representing a significant defence sale for Australia.
