Australia announces lineup changes for World Cup clash against Cook Islands
Australia coach Kevin Walters has announced significant changes to the Kangaroos' starting lineup for their final Rugby League World Cup pool match against the Cook Islands. Reece Walsh is set to return at fullback, moving James Tedesco to the bench despite Tedesco's strong performance in the previous victory over Fiji.
In the halves, Tom Dearden has been selected to partner Cameron Munster, marking the team's third different halves combination of the tournament. This decision sees Sam Walker relegated to the reserves. The squad also sees the return of captain Isaah Yeo and Liam Martin to the forward pack, while Pat Carrigan and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui return to the starting lineup.
Walters indicated a desire to improve the team's defensive consistency and build toward the knockout stages after a moderate showing against Fiji. The Kangaroos remain unbeaten in the tournament following wins against New Zealand and Fiji.
