Australia appoints new leadership for Transport Safety Bureau

The Australian federal government has announced key leadership appointments for the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB). Angus Mitchell has been reappointed as Chief Commissioner and CEO of the ATSB Commission for an additional five-year term. During his initial tenure, Mitchell oversaw several high-profile investigations and expanded the accessibility of safety information.

James Miller has been appointed as a Commissioner for a three-year term. Miller brings over 50 years of aviation experience to the role, including a career as a fleet captain for Qantas. His background includes expertise in airline operations, safety systems, and chairing critical operational committees.

Transport Minister Catherine King stated that the appointments would bolster the bureau, noting that Miller’s experience and Mitchell’s focus on a culture of continuous improvement will support the nation’s rapidly evolving travel, freight, and logistics sectors.
