Australia: Bondi terror‑attack hero Ahmed al Ahmed charged with assault on his father

Ahmed al Ahmed, the 44‑year‑old store owner who disarmed an attacker during the December 2025 anti‑Semitic terror assault on Bondi Beach that left 15 dead, has been charged with common assault and intimidation of his father. Police say the alleged incident occurred on 9 March at a home in Bankstown, with a report filed on 15 March. A court attendance notice was issued, and Ahmed must appear before Bankstown Local Court on 29 July.

The charges follow earlier legal trouble for his brothers, Hozifa and Sameh al Ahmed, who were arrested in May after threatening their sibling and later entered not‑guilty pleas. An interim domestic‑violence protection order bars them from approaching Ahmed or his residence. Ahmed rose to national prominence after his heroic act was captured on video, prompting a fundraising campaign that raised over $2.6 million and a meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The new domestic‑violence case shifts the public focus from his 2025 heroism to personal legal issues, with further court dates scheduled for his brothers on 8 July.
