Australia celebrates National Science Week 2026

National Science Week 2026 is being observed in Australia with various educational and research-focused activities. The theme for the year is “Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all.”

ANSTO is marking the 20th anniversary of its OPAL reactor achieving criticality. The reactor supports the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering, providing neutrons for research in health, the environment, and advanced materials. ANSTO's celebrations include the announcement of winners for the “Think Science!” competition, which saw 229 entries from students in various states and the Northern Territory, and the hosting of a science camp for deaf and hard of hearing youth.

In Victoria, Girl Guides are participating in science-based learning through hands-on activities. These include experiments with chemical reactions, building circuits, and studying biodiversity and environmental conservation through outdoor exploration.
