Australia charges man with fraud following Bondi Beach massacre
A 46-year-old man has been charged with faking injuries and submitting a fraudulent compensation claim following the Bondi Beach massacre. Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad identified the individual after he allegedly provided a false statement claiming he was injured in the attack and published misleading material to support his claims.
The charges include publishing false and misleading material to obtain advantage and making a false representation resulting in a police investigation. The man was granted conditional bail on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court on November 18.
The Bondi Beach attack, which occurred approximately 10 months ago, involved Sajid and Naveed Akram opening fire on a group of Jewish Australians celebrating Hanukkah. The incident resulted in 15 deaths and dozens of injuries, marking the worst terror attack in Australian history. Flavio Brancaleone Sajid was killed during a shootout with police, while Naveed Akram survived and faces terror charges.
