Australia names ODI squad for Zimbabwe and South Africa tours
Australia has announced its 17-member ODI squad for upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, serving as critical preparation for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The selection features the return of senior players Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, and Josh Hazlewood. Mitchell Marsh is expected to lead the side during the Zimbabwe leg, while regular captain Pat Cummins and fast bowler Mitchell Starc will join for the South Africa series.
In a notable omission, Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the squad following a period of poor form, averaging 21.87 across his last 18 ODI innings. To bolster the lineup, selectors have included younger talents such as Joel Davies, Ollie Peake, and Cooper Connolly. Fast bowler Billy Stanlake has also been included in the squad.
The tour begins with three ODIs against Zimbabwe in Harare starting September 15, followed by three ODIs against South Africa starting September 24. This white-ball series will be followed by a high-stakes three-match Test series against South Africa in October.
