Australia defeats Zimbabwe by 59 runs in first ODI

Australia secured a 59-run victory over Zimbabwe in the first One Day International (ODI) of their three-match series at the Harare Sports Club. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia posted a total of 294/8 in their 50 overs.

Matt Renshaw led the Australian innings with a maiden ODI century, scoring 109 runs. His performance was supported by Cooper Connolly, who contributed 51 runs. In response, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 235 in 45.1 overs. Nathan Ellis was instrumental for Australia, claiming a career-best five-wicket haul (5/31).

Zimbabwe’s efforts were highlighted by Newman Nyamhuri, who became the youngest Zimbabwean to take an ODI five-wicket haul, finishing with 5/62. Despite a 98-run partnership between Craig Ervine (59) and captain Sikandar Raza (57), the hosts could not maintain the required run rate against the Australian bowling attack.
