Australia domestic travel trends show shift toward budget spring getaways

Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicates that overseas travel spending by Australians cooled during the June quarter for the first time since the pandemic. In response, travelers are increasingly seeking high-value domestic getaways for the spring season.

According to Skyscanner data, Lord Howe Island has emerged as the top-trending domestic destination for September and November, seeing a 31 per cent increase in searches compared to the same period last year. Other trending locations include Launceston, Newcastle, and Busselton.

For budget-conscious travelers, Ballina is identified as one of the most affordable destinations with an average flight price of $223. Other low-cost options include Launceston at $249, the Gold Coast at $290, and Hobart at $294.
