Australia donates patrol boats to Solomon Islands police

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has received two new NAID patrol boats donated by the Australian Government to enhance maritime policing and security capabilities. The donation is part of a broader Australian investment of approximately 6.5 million AUD (33 million SBD) dedicated to maritime policing, which includes training, maintenance, and operational support.

Acting Commissioner James Aitorea stated that the vessels will strengthen the RSIPF’s ability to conduct coastal patrols, law enforcement, search and rescue, and medical evacuations. The boats are also intended to help combat transnational organized crime, intercept illicit drugs, and protect Solomon Islands' sovereignty.

As part of the initiative, personnel such as Superintendent Harold Reggie, captain of the RSIPV Gizo, are participating in specialized training, including the Patrol Boat Watchkeeper attachment in Australia, to ensure long-term operational effectiveness.
