Australia expands defense capabilities with AIM-260A missile and major UK radar deal

Australia is securing major defense advancements and export opportunities through new high-tech military acquisitions and potential international contracts.

Defence Minister Richard Marles announced that Australia will become the first foreign nation to acquire the AIM-260A Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM). Developed by Lockheed Martin, this classified weapon is intended to replace the AIM-120 AMRAAM and counter long-range adversary missiles. The acquisition is viewed as a strategic move to maintain air superiority in the Indo-Pacific region.

Simultaneously, Australia is nearing a record-breaking defense export deal with the United Kingdom. The British government is considering a contract worth more than $10 billion with Canberra-based CEA Technologies for its phased-array radar systems. British Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard visited the company to sign a statement of intent, which will allow the UK to evaluate the radar for use on warships and army vehicles. The technology is noted for its ability to detect small objects at significant distances and is already integrated into Australia’s Anzac-class frigates.
