Australia expands EV charging rebates for dealerships and mechanics

The Australian federal government has launched a new round of the Dealership and Repairer Initiative for Vehicle Electrification Nationally (DRIVEN) Program. This initiative provides rebates to car dealerships, mechanics, and repair shops to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs).

Eligible businesses can claim up to $3,000 per EV charging plug and up to 80 per cent of the cost for EV-specific workshop tools and equipment, with a total cap of $50,000 per site. The program is scheduled to run until 30 April 2027.

The announcement follows recent data showing that full battery electric vehicles (BEVs) reached a 24.9 per cent market share in August, outselling petrol and diesel models. Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen stated that the investment in charging infrastructure aims to make it easier for families to choose EVs as sales continue to rise.
