Australia expands support strategies for autistic students and NDIS providers

Educators, researchers, and policymakers will convene at NSW Parliament House on September 24 for a ‘Community of Practice’ event hosted by Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). The initiative aims to move beyond universal classroom approaches to develop targeted, evidence-informed strategies for autistic students in both mainstream and specialist education settings.

Aspect CEO Jacqui Borland emphasized that inclusive classrooms require more than physical presence, noting that teachers need practical tools to respond to individual student strengths and needs. The event will focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 approaches, including targeted interventions and progress monitoring.

In the disability support sector, specialized training is being highlighted for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providers. Programs such as those offered by eMaster HUB aim to equip support workers, carers, and educators with practical knowledge regarding sensory needs, communication differences, and person-centered support to improve care for autistic individuals.
