Australia expands trade focus toward Chongqing and Indian markets
Australia is actively pursuing trade diversification through new economic engagements in Asia. In Melbourne, the China (Chongqing)–Australia Economic and Trade Promotion Conference brought together over 400 government and business representatives to strengthen ties between Chongqing and Australian industries.
Chongqing consumer companies are seeking Australian partners in sectors such as food, automobiles, education, and logistics. Existing investments include Australian elevator companies with headquarters in Chongqing and auto parts manufacturers supplying Changan Automobile. The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) facilitates these connections by linking Chongqing to 599 ports globally.
Simultaneously, Australia is targeting India’s expanding middle class to boost agricultural exports. Austrade has identified growing demand for premium foods, health products, wine, meat, and organic goods driven by changing consumer habits and online shopping trends. While competition from local and international producers remains high, Australian suppliers are leveraging their reputation for quality to enter the South Asian market.
