Australia gold mining sector sees rising exploration activity
Australia's gold mining sector is experiencing increased activity, characterized by rising exploration expenditures and significant drilling results. According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, exploration spending in the country's gold sector rose by 23.6% in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 565.6 million AUD.
Barton Gold is advancing its gold-silver Tunkillia project located 70 km southeast of Tarcoola in South Australia. The company recently reported results from the final stage of a 39,000-meter drilling program. Notable findings include intercepts of 53 meters at 2.51 grams of gold per tonne and 21 meters at 4.13 grams per tonne.
Managing Director Alexander Scanlon stated that these results support the potential for additional high-grade, near-surface mineralization. The company is currently revising its mineralization model based on approximately 58,000 meters of total drilling from two program phases to support an upcoming Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS).
