Australia increases Working Holiday Visa processing times

The Australian Department of Home Affairs has reported significant increases in processing times for Working Holiday Maker visas. Applicants applying from abroad now face average delays of approximately three months, with some cases taking even longer.

This shift marks a notable change from previous years when subclass 417 visas could often be issued within hours or days for uncomplicated applications. The delay is partly attributed to a policy where applications submitted from outside Australia are no longer prioritized over those from individuals already within the country.

Due to these uncertainties, Australian authorities explicitly recommend that applicants refrain from booking flights, securing employment, or committing to studies until their visa has been officially granted. These delays are complicating travel plans for young travelers, particularly from countries like France, who find it difficult to organize logistics such as housing and transport without a confirmed arrival date.
