Australia issues measles exposure alerts in NSW and SA

Health authorities in Australia have issued alerts following measles exposures in New South Wales and South Australia.

In New South Wales, the Northern NSW Local Health District reported a confirmed case that traveled through Byron Shire, Ballina, and Pottsville while infectious. The individual recently returned from Southeast Asia. Specific exposure locations include Shearwater Steiner School, Bush Blossom Explores, The Patch Café, Mullumbimby Library, Pottsville Tennis Club, and the Byron Central Hospital Emergency Department. Officials urge those who visited these sites to monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, and rash.

In South Australia, SA Health confirmed three new measles cases among teenagers, linked to a previous outbreak. Exposure sites in Adelaide include Kmart Westfield Marion, Morphett Vale Stadium, Brighton Secondary School, El Mexicano Restaurant, St Louis café, and Costco Wholesale Adelaide. This brings the total number of notified measles cases in South Australia to eight this year. Health officials advise unimmunized individuals to monitor their health and contact doctors via telephone if symptoms appear.
