Australia leads electrification through renewables and AI solar forecasting
Australia is positioning itself as a leader in the global transition toward electrification, driven by rapid growth in solar, wind, battery storage, and electric vehicles. This movement aligns with COP31 targets, which aim to increase electricity’s share of global final energy demand from 20% to 35% by 2035.
To support this transition, particularly in regions with high rooftop solar adoption like Australia, artificial intelligence is being utilized for solar production forecasting. These AI systems analyze weather data, satellite imagery, and historical performance to predict solar output with minute-by-minute accuracy. Such technology allows households to optimize the use of batteries, electric vehicle chargers, and appliances by scheduling them during peak generation periods.
While decarbonizing land transport and heating is considered achievable with current technology, significant development is still required over the next decade to decarbonize heavy industries, including metals, cement, and synthetic aviation fuels.
