Australia lowers travel advisory for UAE and Qatar
The Australian government has lowered its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Smartraveller has moved both nations from Level 3, “reconsider your need to travel”, to Level 2, “exercise a high degree of caution”.
This change follows a recent security incident involving an alleged hijacking attempt on a Flydubai flight traveling from the UAE to Israel. During the incident, a co-pilot reportedly attacked his colleague with an axe in an attempt to crash the aircraft into Ben Gurion Airport. The attempt was thwarted by the other pilot and passengers, leading the aircraft to land in Saudi Arabia.
While the advisory level has been downgraded, Smartraveller maintains that the security situation in the region remains unpredictable. Travelers are warned of the potential threat of terrorism and advised that commercial flights could face sudden delays, cancellations, or diversions if conditions deteriorate.
