Australia macadamia harvest concludes on the Sunshine Coast

The macadamia nut harvest on Australia’s Sunshine Coast concludes its season between March and September. As the nuts fall naturally from the trees, processing begins for global distribution.

In Yandina, located approximately 100 kilometers north of Brisbane, the company Nutworks processes about nine percent of Australia’s total macadamia harvest. The facility works with over 80 local producers to crack shells, sort kernels, and produce items such as spiced nuts, butter, and oil.

While macadamias are now produced in countries like China and South Africa, Australia remains the only nation where the nut is native. The industry has deep historical roots, with Indigenous Australians traditionally gathering the nuts in eastern rainforests. The scientific naming of the plant dates back to 1857 by botanist Ferdinand von Mueller.
