Australia police investigate theft of 400,000 oysters

Police in New South Wales, Australia, are investigating the theft of a large quantity of oysters from an aquaculture farm near Taree. Oyster farmer Ryan Freeman reported that approximately 320 cultivation bags, containing roughly 400,000 oysters, vanished from the Manning River.

The thieves also took farming floats and rolling cages. Total losses are estimated to be as high as 400,000 AUD. Freeman noted that 80 percent of the stolen stock was specifically being prepared for the Christmas market, having been raised for three to four years. Authorities are seeking information from the public to assist in the investigation.
