Australia projected to see record 8.1m tonne canola harvest
Australia is projected to achieve a record canola harvest of 8.1 million tonnes for the 2026-27 season, according to a Rabobank winter crop forecast. This figure represents a 15.5 per cent increase over the five-year average.
While the total winter crop volume is expected to reach approximately 63 million tonnes, this is roughly 8 per cent lower than the previous season. The decline in total volume is attributed to mixed climatic conditions, including rainfall setbacks in Queensland and New South Wales. Conversely, the wheat crop is forecast to decrease by 13 per cent compared to last season.
Market conditions for canola remain strong, with prices hovering above $800 per tonne. This demand is driven by the biofuel sector and global oilseed consumption. Approximately 60 per cent of the canola production is expected to originate from Western Australia, where planting areas increased by 41 per cent.
