Australia residential battery market shifts toward right-sized systems
The Australian residential energy storage market is undergoing a shift toward ‘right-sized’ battery systems. According to SunWiz data from July 2026, the 20 to 30 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery segment grew by 18 per cent month-on-month, surpassing the 40-50 kWh category to become the largest storage segment in the country.
Lisa Zhang, Vice President of Operations and Marketing at Growatt, suggests this trend indicates households are moving away from a focus on maximum capacity in favor of matching storage to actual usage and subsidy economics. This transition marks a move from subsidy-driven growth to adoption driven by economic utility, such as managing time-of-use tariffs and reducing grid consumption.
In response to these market changes, Growatt is introducing its MINA and MODA all-in-one energy storage systems to the Australian market, designed for both single-phase and three-phase homes.
