Australia retirement trends show high savings but low confidence
Recent data and research highlight evolving challenges in Australian retirement planning. While Australians are entering retirement with more savings than previous generations—with superannuation holdings exceeding $4.4 trillion—confidence remains low. Surveys from various institutions, including AMP and Vanguard, indicate that only about half of Australians feel financially prepared, with a significant fear of outliving their savings. Notably, women report lower confidence levels compared to men, and many retirees are leaving the workforce earlier than originally planned.
To address these complexities, Russell Investments has introduced the Russell Retirement Solution. This suite includes new managed portfolios designed to help advisers structure assets across three distinct time horizons: near-term liquidity, medium-term income needs, and long-term capital growth. The solution features a retirement calculator to assist with personalized glide paths and rebalancing as client circumstances change, aiming to balance immediate living expenses with the need for continued long-term investment growth.
