Australia expands solar and battery financing for households

Clean energy company Plico has launched Plico Finance, a weekly‑payment financing product that lets eligible households in New South Wales and Western Australia spread the cost of solar panels, inverters and batteries over ten years. The scheme is backed by up to $35 million from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation’s Household Energy Upgrades Fund and offers same‑day approval, no establishment fee and the ability to combine with other rebates. Plico CEO Robbie Campbell said the finance is designed “to remove the barrier of large upfront costs” and to bring more homes into Virtual Power Plant (VPP) networks.

Separately, the NSW Government has introduced the $557 million Home Energy Saver program, providing interest‑free loans of up to $15,000 and discounts of up to $4,000 for solar, battery, insulation and other energy‑saving upgrades. Eligible households with combined taxable income up to $210,000 can apply for the loans, while lower‑income earners and concession card holders can access the discounts. Smart Energy Council CEO David McElrea called the program “a massive win for households looking to take control of their energy bills.”
