Australia defeats Fiji 36-22 in Rugby League World Cup clash
Australia secured a 36-22 victory over Fiji at Suncorp Stadium to qualify for the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals in top position. Despite a spirited performance from the Fiji Bati, who led 16-12 in the second half, the Kangaroos overcame the challenge through a standout performance by captain James Tedesco and a hat-trick from Tom Trbojevic.
Fiji's Kurt Donoghoe earned man-of-the-match honors for his playmaking, providing three try assists for winger Semi Valemei, who also scored a hat-trick. While Fiji's forward pack dominated much of the match, Australia's clinical finishing and bench depth ultimately decided the outcome.
Following the loss, Fiji must defeat New Zealand this Saturday to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Australia is scheduled to play their semi-final at Allianz Stadium on November 8. Meanwhile, Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters faces selection decisions regarding the fullback position between James Tedesco and Reece Walsh, and has confirmed that Ethan Strange will make his international debut against the Cook Islands.
