Australia sees rise in seasonal pet veterinary claims

Pet insurer CoverMy Pet reports a seasonal surge in veterinary claims across Australia as warmer weather encourages pets to spend more time outdoors. The most frequent spring issues include allergies, skin rashes, and infections caused by grass seeds lodged in paws and ears.

Snake bites and tick paralysis represent significant concerns, particularly for animals near coastal or bush areas. Grant Pugh, General Manager of CoverMy Pet, noted that snake bite treatments can cost up to $5,000, posing a substantial financial risk to owners.

Data indicates that veterinarians in New South Wales see the highest volume of spring claims, followed by Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia. Owners are advised to inspect their pets' coats, ears, and paws regularly after outdoor activity to prevent minor issues from escalating.
