Australia sees surge in high-paying engineering and mining jobs
New data from employment platform Seek reveals a surge in demand for high-paying roles in Australia, particularly within the engineering and resource sectors. Electrical project engineers saw a 94 per cent increase in job advertisements between June and August 2026 compared to the previous year, with an average advertised salary of $149,043.
Other significant growth areas include mining engineers, who saw an 87 per cent rise in job ads with an average salary of $173,323, and project engineers, who saw a 65 per cent increase with an average salary of $157,015. Commercial managers emerged as the most lucrative role in the top 10, averaging $208,298.
Seek’s chief economist Blair Chapman attributed the demand in mining and energy to rising commodity prices. Additionally, government investment in large-scale infrastructure and rail projects has driven demand for health, safety, and environment advisers, as well as commercial managers. The rise of AI-related data centres is also contributing to the need for platform engineers and construction workers.
