Australian sheepmeat exports experienced a significant decline in July 2026, with total lamb and mutton shipments reaching 31,217 tonnes. This figure represents a 29% decrease compared to July of the previous year and sits 23% below the five-year average for the month.

China remains Australia's primary sheepmeat market, accounting for 21.8% of total exports so far this year. However, July shipments to China totaled 7,003 tonnes, a 35% drop from the previous year and 24% below the five-year average. The decline reflects cautious buying patterns and weakening demand in the Chinese market.

The United States also remains a key destination, receiving 6,512 tonnes in July. While US exports were 5% lower than the previous year and 17% below the five-year average, the market showed more resilience compared to other regions. The US accounts for 19.8% of Australia's sheepmeat exports in 2026.
