Australia tax reform debate focuses on potential GST increase

Discussions regarding potential Goods and Services Tax (GST) increases in Australia have emerged among various political and economic figures. Proponents of tax reform, including former treasurer Josh Frydenberg, former finance minister Mathias Cormann, and independent member Allegra Spender, have been noted in the debate.

Economic experts such as former Treasury secretary Ken Henry and Grattan Institute head Aruna Sathanapally have also been linked to calls for reform. The debate centers on addressing unsustainable national debt and deficits, which have grown from 5 per cent of the gross domestic product twenty years ago to 45 per cent today.
