Australia tourism sees surge in bookings from German travelers

Tourism in Australia is experiencing significant growth, particularly among German travelers. The specialized tour operator Australia Unlimited reports that bookings for the current year have more than doubled compared to the same period last year, with an upward trend already visible for 2027.

Data from Tourism Australia supports this growth, noting that approximately 180,000 guests traveled from Germany to Australia in 2025, representing a seven percent increase from the previous year. Travelers are increasingly favoring customized road trips involving rental cars, followed by small group tours and campervan trips. There is also a growing demand in the high-end segment for luxury lodges.

Key demographics include young adults, families, and ‘empty nesters.’ While many travelers opt for stays of 18 to 20 days, there is a notable shift toward longer-term visits lasting 40 to 50 days or more. Australia offers diverse attractions ranging from the Outback and rainforests to major cities like Sydney and Canberra.
