Australia travel trends show increased strategic booking and domestic tourism
Australian travel habits are shifting as consumers adopt more strategic booking behaviors to manage cost pressures. According to a Skyscanner study of 2,000 Australians, 77% of respondents are willing to reduce everyday expenses to fund travel, with 70% stating that travel is worth the financial sacrifice.
To secure better prices, 94% of travelers are adapting their booking methods, such as traveling during off-peak periods, booking in advance, or remaining flexible with dates and destinations. Common cost-saving measures include shortening trips (45%), adjusting travel dates (39%), and compromising on flight convenience (35%). Additionally, 27% of travelers have swapped overseas holidays for domestic trips.
Parallel to these budgetary shifts, domestic tourism in Australia is seeing significant growth, particularly in camping and caravan travel. This trend has led to an increase in shorter regional getaways and weekend explorations. The rise in outback touring has also highlighted the importance of vehicle preparedness, specifically regarding 4x4 modifications and towing safety for remote regional travel.
