Australia wellness economy grows as home infrared sauna demand rises

Australia is seeing a rise in the installation of home infrared saunas, driven by a growing wellness economy. According to a report by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the Australian wellness economy grew by 10.9% between 2022 and 2023, reaching 126.7 billion USD.

Key growth sectors include wellness tourism, hot springs and mineral water, and wellness real estate. The trend toward home infrared saunas is particularly notable among professionals aged 30 to 55 in urban areas like Sydney and Melbourne, who value the convenience and time savings of home equipment over commercial spa memberships.

In regions such as Southeast Queensland and Western Australia, high household incomes and different geographic availability of thermal facilities are also fueling demand. The global infrared sauna market is projected to grow from 1.89 billion USD in 2025 to 3.58 billion USD by 2032.
