Australia wins Speedway World Cup in Warsaw

The Australian national speedway team secured the Speedway World Cup title at the PGE Narodowy stadium in Warsaw, ending a 24-year drought since their last championship in 2002. The team dominated the competition from the opening heats, ultimately finishing with an eight-point lead over second-place Denmark.

Debutant Ryan Douglas contributed significantly to the victory, scoring 10 points. Douglas, who earned his spot due to a strong season and an injury to Jack Holder, described the experience of racing before such a large crowd as feeling ‘like being in a trance’.

Max Fricke, a member of the winning squad, expressed immense pride in the achievement, noting the significance of winning on such a major stage. He remarked that the victory felt incredible given Australia’s long struggle to reclaim the title and observed that Poland has become a central hub for world speedway.
