Australia wins U18 Women’s Water Polo World Championship
The Australian Women’s U18 water polo team secured their first-ever world title by defeating defending champions Spain 9-5 in the final of the 2026 World Aquatics Water Polo World Championships in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
Australia established early dominance with a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter, driven by goals from Bless Daly and Ali McCarthy. While Spain attempted a comeback in the second quarter, Australia maintained control to lead 7-4 entering the final period. Goalkeeper Caroline Healy was named Player of the Match following nine crucial saves, while Bless Daly was named Tournament MVP after scoring 42 goals across seven matches.
Spain finished the tournament as runners-up. In the bronze medal match, the United States defeated Hungary with a score of 8-7.
