Australian women's cricketers urge better summer scheduling

Senior players of the Australian women’s cricket team are calling on Cricket Australia to address scheduling gaps that leave the world’s top-ranked white-ball side without home international fixtures during the peak Australian summer.

Captain Ellyse Perry and veteran Beth Mooney expressed concerns that the current calendar, which lacks matches during school holidays and the Christmas period, could stunt the growth of the sport and discourage junior participation. The scheduling constraints are largely driven by overlapping franchise commitments, such as the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia and the Women’s Premier League in India.

Following a brief two-week block of matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand in October, the team faces a five-month hiatus from home internationals until March. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg stated the organization is actively looking for ways to bring more cricket into the summer window, noting that dialogue with players is ongoing regarding these scheduling challenges.
