Australian agricultural exports show growth in grapes and wine
Australia is seeing a recovery in its table grape and wine export sectors. The table grape harvest is forecast to increase by 5.1% to 205,000 tons in the 2026/27 marketing year, up from an estimated 195,000 tons in 2025/26. This recovery follows heavy rainfall in early 2026 that damaged fruit and caused financial losses in key regions like Sunraysia and the Murray Valley. While export volumes for grapes are expected to rise by 2.0%, growth is tempered by fruit quality and domestic consumption. Notably, Indonesia has overtaken China as Australia's largest table grape export destination.
In the wine sector, Australian exports to Canada increased by 12% in value to 185 million AUD for the year ending September 2026. This growth follows a trade dispute between Canada and the United States, which led several Canadian provinces to remove American alcoholic beverages from retail platforms. Australian red wines, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, have filled much of this market gap. South Australia has been a primary beneficiary, with its wine exports to Canada rising by over 24 million AUD, making Canada the third-largest destination for the state's wine.
