Australian Agriculture Awards recognize industry innovators

The Australian Agriculture Awards, launched by ACM Agri and the National Farmers Federation, are celebrating innovation and safety within the agricultural sector. The awards feature state-level ceremonies that lead to a national event in Canberra in November.

In Western Australia, Moojepin Merinos, owned by David and Hamish Thompson, won the Westpac Innovation in Agriculture category. David Thompson emphasized the necessity of embracing technology and education to drive industry change, noting that tradition can sometimes hinder progress.

In Queensland, sixteen finalists have been named across five categories. Among the finalists in the Women in Agriculture category are Nicole Chiesa, Sonya Comiskey, and Jane Armstrong. Chiesa, founder of Link 2 Country, focuses on providing hands-on agri-life skills programs for young people and the community.
