Australian aid worker family seeks accountability after IDF strike

The family of Zomi Frankcom, an Australian aid worker killed in a 2024 Israeli airstrike in Gaza, has expressed deep disappointment following the Israeli Defense Force’s (IDF) decision not to pursue criminal proceedings. The strike, which also killed six other World Central Kitchen workers, has prompted the Australian government to express “outrage” as it considers its next steps.

The incident highlights a broader crisis regarding the safety of humanitarian personnel. Over the past three years, more than 1,000 aid workers have been killed, with 2024 being the deadliest year on record. In Gaza specifically, more than 400 United Nations personnel have been killed since October 2023. Advocates argue that without increased international accountability and protection for aid workers, the ability to deliver essential assistance to conflict zones will continue to diminish.
