Australian ASX Gold Stocks Outlook Remains Positive

Australian-listed gold and silver miners on the ASX saw their shares surge more than 25% in 2023, outpacing the broader ASX 200 index. The sector benefited from a strong gold price, geopolitical uncertainty and continued investor demand for safe‑haven assets.

A VanEck report notes that gold prices have pulled back about 25% from January highs, yet the long‑term case for ASX gold stocks stays solid. Low all‑in sustaining costs (below US$2,000 per ounce) keep margins strong even at current gold prices around US$4,000 per ounce, supporting record cash flow, dividend payments and share buy‑backs. Inflation, central‑bank buying and lower real rates further underpin the outlook, while valuations remain low relative to historical levels.
