Australian basketball: NBL1 National Finals field set and UBL season begins

The 2026 Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 National Finals field has been finalized, featuring 12 teams. The tournament will be held at the State Basketball Centre at the Adelaide Showground from August 21 to August 23. The competition includes six men's teams and six women's teams, consisting of the five NBL1 Conference Champions and the reigning National Champions from each category.

In the men's field, the Norths Bears, Forestville Eagles, Rockingham Flames, Gold Coast Rollers, and Frankston Blues join the reigning champions, the Canberra Gunners. The women's field includes the Knox Raiders as reigning champions, alongside the Bankstown Bruins, Sturt Sabres, Mackay Meteorettes, Warwick Senators, and Waverley Falcons.

Separately, the sixth season of the New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) has commenced. Round One featured fourteen games across three states. Notable results include the University of Tasmania securing wins in both men's and women's games to begin their title defense, and the University of Sydney claiming a narrow 99-97 victory in the men's game against Victoria University.
